Welcome!

Hi!

My name is Caitlin Roll! I am (almost) 22 years old, a senior at UCF, and have been a member of River Run since 2001. I've struggled with my own weight and eating habits my entire life--ESPECIALLY the exercise!!--but in the last few years I have finally found something that works for me, and those are the things I want to share with you through this ministry.

I spent a year abroad in Germany as part of my studies and as you can imagine, my eating habits suffered... when I got back...well.... the mirror showed NO mercy, either... so I embarked on my own journey to get off those pesky pounds once and for all! I was tired of thinking about it, tired of looking at my closet every day wondering what would fit, tired of being tired, tired of feeling underconfident, tired of overeating!!!... it was hard and I STILL struggle with eating (especially cake and cookies!), but in six months I lost a total of 18 lbs...through working out at home and watching my portions. You can see pics of the progress here.

The Healthy4Him ministry began in my mind in September 2008 and kicked off at River Run in early January of this year. It has been steadily growing ever since! Since recognizing the need for better health in myself, God has been showing me the need in the community as well--the need to get moving and get our hearts and bodies healthy so we can serve Him and others to our highest potential!

Now we're trying to get the word out any way we can! So, if you got our little yellow list of "10 Things to do THIS WEEK for Weight Loss and Better Health", and decided to check out our website, well, then, our latest scheme worked :-) Hopefully you got to talk to either me or Brian Ceely and got your name on the email mailing list. If you didn't, send me an email at caitlinroll@gmail.com. I'll email you periodically (max. 2x per week), but mainly wanted to get everyone's email addresses in case there was a change or cancelation in the schedule.

Check out the FAQs and definitely check out www.walkathome.com ... those are the aerobic workouts we will be using most, because they are FUN, easy, and easily adaptable to any fitness level. My best advice is to just come check it out for yourself :-)

Remember: our souls are more free to love and serve when they aren't being dragged down by a body whose discomfort demands constant attention! The absolute BEST gift we can give others is to take care of ourselves!

Have a great week, remember to email me with any questions (or look me up on Facebook!)... and we will see you on Saturday to sweat, sweat, sweat!!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who is allowed to participate in Healthy4Him?
Any gender, any size, any age 14+ are encouraged to participate.

Is childcare provided at Healthy4Him?
Unfortunately, childcare is currently not provided at Healthy4Him.

What workout programs are used at Healthy4Him?
We usually start out with a low-impact cardio workout in DVD format from the Walk at Home program. The workouts can be modified for ALL fitness levels.

Sometimes after the cardio workout (which lasts between 30 and 60 minutes), we stay and do a yoga workout, some kickboxing, or a 10-minute abs segment. It is a flexible group and there is always something for everyone :-)

How often does Healthy4Himmeet?
Healthy4Him currently meets once per week.

When does Healthy4Him meet?
Healthy4Him currently meets on Saturday mornings starting at 9am.

How long are the workouts?
The length will vary slightly from week to week; workouts will usually take under or a little over an hour. Occasionally we may offer a "boot camp" challenge, where the overall length of both workouts will increase by 15-30 minutes... this will usually happen around holidays.

Where does Healthy4Him meet?
Healthy4Him meets at River Run Christian Church
in the 4th and 5th grade room in the children's wing. Look for the open doors :-)

What do I need to bring to Healthy4Him?
Generally, you will need the following items for your workout:
  • modest athletic attire
  • comfortable athletic shoes
  • a water bottle (you can fill it up at home or in the church lobby)
  • a towel if desired
  • light handweights or weighted gloves if desired
  • A GOOD ATTITUDE!
  • possibly a workout mat (for yoga or abs)

Do I have to be in shape to participate in Healthy4Him?
No!! The ministry is here for anyone! We hope you will be inspired to ask questions about how to begin a healthy lifestyle. All workouts can be modified to any fitness level.

Do I have to be a Christian to participate in Healthy4Him? Can't I just work out?
No, you do not have to be a Christian and YES, you CAN just come work out. River Run and the Healthy4Him ministry is about connecting people, and we would love to have you. We're interested in meeting all types of people, and everyone (ages 14+) is welcome to attend. We won't preach to you, call you during dinner, or bug you to come to church on Sunday, that's a promise!

What if the workout is too easy?
All workouts can be modified to any fitness level.

Why does Healthy4Him use DVD workouts?
Using DVD workouts allows everyone to exercise fully at their own risk and removes liability from the ministry should someone get injured while performing the exercise. Don't worry, though, should you actually get injured (unlikely), we will take care of you, but we cannot be held responsible for any injuries incurred.
